JG Summit began its first year of operations as a publicly-listed company.

Digital Telecommunications Philippines, Inc. (Digitel) was acquired with the objective of providing Filipinos affordable and reliable access to telecom services.

URC entered into a joint venture with Hunt-Wesson forming Hunt-URC.

MAXX menthol candy was introduced.

About 95% of the Galleria Corporate Center has been sold or leased.

1994

JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation (JGSPC) was incorporated in partnership with Marubeni Corporation of Japan, and was awarded pioneer status by the Philippine Board of Investments as the country's first and only polyethylene and polypropylene manufacturer.

URC became a publicly-listed company.

Digitel obtained its national franchise granting the unit to operate a nationwide telecommunications system in the Philippines.

Digitel was granted by the National Telecommunications Commission public authority to install and operate an international gateway facility in Pangasinan, which became operational in November 1995.

Robinsons Home, Inc. and Trion Homes Development Corporation were established.

1995

First Private Power Corp (FPPC), a company incorporated by JG Summit, First Philippine Holdings Corp and Manila Electric Co. (MER), formally inaugurated its USD200mn 215MW diesel power plant in La Union.

JG Summit acquired Apo Cement Corporation for USD20mn and invested USD350mn for the construction of a dry-process cement plant to capitalize on the booming construction industry.

URC successfully introduced two new breakthrough brands - Hello chocolate enrobe wafers and Tivoli Heaven in a Bar.

XO coffee flavored candy, Star Fruits candies, and Nissin cup noodles were launched.

Robinsons Homes started its first upscale housing project, a 50-unit townhouse cluster located along Benitez St. Quezon City.

1996

Cebu Air, Inc. (CEB) was incorporated and launched its domestic operations with its first flight from Manila to Cebu under the brand Cebu Pacific.

RLC's Robinsons Place Manila was completely constructed.

The real estate development and hotel management activities of JG Summit were consolidated under RLC.

Robinsons Galleria expanded and the new Robinsons-Bacolod were opened.

1997
RBank

Robinsons Savings Bank (RSB) was established amid the backdrop of the Asian Financial Crisis.

RSB’s Central Depository Services office at the Robinsons Galleria was opened to the public.

JG Summit broke ground on the Php150mn Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) Technical Training Center, a non-profit TESDA accredited institution envisioned to be a world-class continuing school for engineers.

Magic Flakes

Nova multi-grain snack, Magic Flakes crackers and Nissin Yakisoba cup noodles were launched.

RLC's Robinsons Galleria expanded, Robinsons Place-Bacolod and the redeveloped Robinsons Place Manila were opened.

CEB was granted the status as an official Philippine carrier to operate international services by the Office of the President of the Philippines.

With a fleet of 8 DC-9 aircraft, CEB carried over a million passengers.

Apo Cement's dry-process cement plant started commercial operations, making the company the country's largest cement manufacturer with a capacity of 2mn tons a year.

1998
Petrochem

Commercial operations of JGSPC's polyethylene and polypropylene plants commenced.

JG Summit sold Far East Bank and Trust Company to the International Finance Corporation, an investment arm of the World Bank.

Major new brand launch for products Magic Flakes Crackers, Hello Wafers, Dynamite Choco-filled mint candy, star chips, Munchies pelletized chips happened during this year plus new product line extensions such as XO Butter Caramel and Lemon Iced Tea, Piattos Sour Cream and Onion and Nissin Mini Cup.

Digitel PIN, a telephone security feature that prevents unauthorized use of international long-distance calls, was introduced.

FPPC completed its 72MW Panay Project.

1999

JG Summit, through a subsidiary, acquired a 23% stake in a Singapore-listed company, United Industrial Corp,. Ltd (UIC).

Apo Cement was sold to the Mexican cement giant, Cemex SA, for USD400mn.

GBF

GBF Technical Training Center, a non-profit TESDA accredited institution touted as the finishing school for engineering graduates, was completed.

Robinsons Bank (RBank) was established. It installed 4 ATM’s and went online with Megalink in April and Bancnet in June.

Litton Mills, Inc. (LMI), JG Summit's textile business, forged a strategic alliance with Swift US and attained its ISO 9001 Certification from SGS. LMI permanently shut down its knitting operations later in the year.

CEB received its ISO 9002 certification from Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) and became the first Philippine airline to be issued an AQS 9000/121 certification by the Aviation Quality and Safety.

URC launched new variants and products, such as Maxx Dalandan Orange, Dynamite Melon, Lush Center-Filled chocolate, Magic Flakes cream-filled sandwiches, Lavich premium wafer sandwich, Great Taste RTD coffee, Cyclones ice lollies, Fun Cones and Swiss Miss Cocoa Powder.

Digitel launched Digitel One, the company’s high-speed and internet subsidiary dubbed as Digital One.

2000

JG Summit Capital Markets Corporation was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

URC expanded in the ASEAN market after the international investments of the Gokongwei family were folded-in into the company.

The Children’s Library, a non-profit multi-media library was built at the Robinsons Galleria shopping center.

The second batch of technician scholars of the GBF underwent its 12-month intensive program for young engineers.

JG Summit entered into a Joint Venture Agreement with 5 other Philippine conglomerates establishing a business to business (B2B) electronic purchasing exchange, BayanTrade Dotcom, Inc.

FPPC incorporated Batangas Cogen Corporation to build and operate a co-generation power plant in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

JG Petrochem secured its ISO 9002 certification.

2001

CEB inaugurated its first international flight from Manila to Hong Kong, and began its regular flight to Seoul.

CEB owned one AS 355N twin-engine Ecureuil Helicopter for lease to customers.

Digital established Sun Cellular to provide wireless public and private telecommunications services.

Total leasable area of RLC reached approximately 466,800sqm.

URC has penetrated the snacks, candy and wafer segment in the ASEAN region with countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as India, Pakistan and, China and Hong Kong.

Imus Cavite Satellite Library of GBF was turned over.

Premier Printing Corp., Inc. has been established with the vision of becoming the leading commercial printer of glossy magazines in the country.

2002

CEB started offering scheduled Manila-Butuan services.

The John Gokongwei School of Management in Ateneo de Manila was established.

RSB acquired the 20 branches and deposit portfolio of ABN Amro Savings Bank - Philippines.

2003

RLC opened malls in Sta. Rosa, Cagayan de Oro, Dasmariñas, Lipa and Cainta, bringing its total portfolio to 15 commercial centers with an average occupancy rate of 95%.

Digitel pioneered unlimited wireless call and text services dubbed as “24/7 Call and Text Unlimited” in the country through Sun Cellular. It also launched innovative products such as Convert-A-Load and Sureload Phone Kits.

Refresh Mineral Water was introduced to the market.

URC's trading operations in Vietnam started.

2004

URC entered the ready-to-drink (RTD) market with C2 Green Tea - the first locally manufactured, high quality, RTD green tea-based beverage.

2005

CEB pioneered the no-frills approach with the vision of providing great value fares that reinvented the industry and made travelling affordable to everyone.

RLC

RLC launched Crowne Plaza Hotel after partnering with InterContinental Hotels Group.

John Gokongwei Institute for Leadership and Enterprise Development (JG-ILED) was developed.

2006

CEB introduced its e-ticketing and online booking system through www.cebupacificair.com

GBF began offering various scholarship programs to the Filipino youth.

RLC conducted its Php5.4bn follow-on offering.

2007

CEB became the largest domestic carrier in the Philippines

Cebu Pacific ATR

CEB began using ATR72-500 aircraft to service locations with limited runway and strength limitation capacity.

JGSPC became wholly-owned by JG Summit.

Bida Digitel, which pertains to landline and asymmetric digital subscriber line bundles in Luzon, was introduced.

Digitel also launched Mango, a wireless high speed internet-ready landline service, in unserved and underserved rural areas in the country.

GBF granted 34 young Filipinos a year-long scholarship to the prestigious Beijing Language and Culture University in Beijing, China.

Retail and Service Academy was established to offer courses that address the needs of the retail and service businesses.

2008

JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC) was incorporated to build and operate the first and only naphtha cracker in the Philippines.

CEB was ranked among the Top 3 Low Cost Carriers in Asia based on number of passengers carried.

Digitel completed its All-IP Next Generation Network rollout.

2009

RLC’s residential division was consolidated and categorized into four brands – Robinsons Luxuria, Robinsons Residences, Robinsons Communities and Robinsons Homes - to tap a broad range of consumers and market.

RLC opened Robinsons Malls in San Nicolas, Cebu, Dumaguete and General Santos.

Digitel launched SUNTEL Wireless Landline, which offered unlimited landline to landline calls.

Digitel had installed over 600,000 lines with over 400,000 working lines servicing 281 towns and cities throughout Luzon.

Sun Cellular widened its prepaid line through Sun prepaid promos e.g. WinnerText10, Call and Text Combo 10, 20 and 30 Budget Text etc.

CEB became the most recognized airline brand in the Philippines according to Nielsen's brand equity survey.

CEB flew approximately 7.2 million domestic passengers and 1.6 million international passengers.

2010

Robinsons Bank (RBank) began operating as a commercial bank through the acquisition of 60% of the shares of The Royal Bank of Scotland - Philippines.

URC installed a beverage manufacturing facility in Hanoi to extend its growing Vietnam business to the northern region.

RLC opened Go Hotel, Philippines' first budget hotel chain, at Cybergate Complex in Mandaluyong.

Construction of Magnolia Town Square under Magnolia Residences was started.

JGSOC began construction of the naphtha cracker and was awarded pioneer status by the Philippine Board of Investments.

CEB's public listing raised Php23.3bn, the then-largest international low-cost carrier IPO offered globally.

Digitel breached the 1mn mark in postpaid cellular subscription, besting the two major players in the telecoms industry.

Sun Cellular offered internet service to Blackberry Smartphone users. It also launched the Sun Magic Zone Mindanao SIM with the lowest unlimited call and text special rates for Sun Mindanao subscribers.

Sun Cellular built a total of 10,000 cell sites all over the country.

FPPC ceased operations and merged with Bauang Private Power Corporation.

2011

JG Summit successfully sold its stake in Digitel to PLDT, Inc. at a full-company valuation of Php74.1bn, the then largest acquisition in the Philippine corporate history; and obtained nearly USD600mn in cash and 8% stake in PLDT.

Great Taste

Great Taste White was launched as the first white coffee in the Philippines.

RLC raised Php13.7bn in gross proceeds from its 1:2 stock rights offering, which were used to enhance its land bank and complete various development projects.

CEB launched its Manila – Busan services.

GBF gave significant endowment leading to the establishment of De La Salle University Gokongwei College of Engineering

2012
Legazpi Savings Bank

RBank acquired Legazpi Savings Bank to engage in countryside banking and microfinance lending.

URC reissued 120mn treasury shares, raising Php7.4bn in gross proceeds, which were partly used to fully acquire URC International.

URC expanded its sugar operations and acquired its fifth mill in Tolong, Negros Occidental, increasing its capacity to 33,000 bags of refined sugar per day.

CEB, in partnership with the Canada-based CAE, formally inaugurated the Philippine Academy for Aviation and Training.

JGSPC reached the ‘12 Million Safe Man-Hours Without Lost Time Accident’ milestone.

2013

JG Summit acquired 27.1% stake in MER for Php72.0bn.

JG Summit completed the then-largest US Dollar bond issue by a Philippine corporate, raising USD750mn at record low interest rates.

JG Summit was included in the MSCI Philippines Index, a widely followed index by global investment portfolio managers.

CEB launched its first long-haul flight from Manila to Dubai.

URC's investment license for Myanmar was approved, allowing it to set up a manufacturing facility in the country.

URC ventured into renewables as it broke ground for its USD35mn ethanol distillery plant and invested USD62mn into a biomass co-generation facility in Negros.

2014

URC entered into a joint venture agreement with Japan-based Calbee, Inc. to manufacture and distribute food products under the "Calbee Jack n' Jill" brand name.

DANONE Universal Robina Beverages, Inc (DURBI) was formed when URC entered into a joint venture agreement with Danone Asia Holding Pte Ltd. to diversify the company's line of beverage products.

URC completed the acquisition of 100% of NZ Snack Foods Holdings Limited, the holdings company for Griffin's Food Limited, a leading snack food company in New Zealand.

CEB entered into a strategic alliance with Tigerair and acquired 100% of Tiger Air Philippines.

JG Summit Founder John Gokongwei, Jr became the first Filipino to be conferred the Lifetime Achievement Luminary Award by Channel NewsAsia, recognizing his contribution to the growth of Philippine industry and the Asian economy.

JGSOC completed the first and only naphtha cracker in the Philippines, making JG Petrochem the only fully-integrated petrochemical complex in the country.

2015

CEB rolled out its new logo, which symbolizes the airline's growth and evolution, featuring shades of the Philippines' land, sea, sky and sun.

The airline flew its 100 millionth passenger in 2015.

CEB launched its rewards program for frequent flyers, namely the GetGo lifestyle rewards program.

Tigerair Philippines was rebranded as Cebgo, and eventually transitioned into an all-turboprop fleet after it had acquired CEB's ATR aircraft.

RLC acquired an 18-hectare property along Ortigas Avenue Extension in Cainta, Rizal, which is poised to become one of the company's largest mixed-use urban development.

RLC acquired land use rights for the 220,000sqm Chengdu Ban Bian Property in China, the company's first and only international presence.

URC Sugar's 46MW Cogeneration power plant was inaugurated and began dispatching 20MW of electricity to the national grid.

URC's Myanmar factory started its operations and began manufacturing Halo biscuits and wafers.

DURBI introduced B'lue, an energy booster drinking water to the Philippine Market.

Food products under the “Calbee Jack N’ Jill” brand were launched.

URC started in a new chocolate bar line for Griffins and launched Griffin's brands in Singapore.

2016

JG Summit strategically expanded its investments in the power industry by acquiring 30% of Global Business Power Corporation, the leading independent power producer in Visayas and Mindoro Island.

URC acquired 100% of Consolidated Snacks Pty Ltd, which trades under the company name Snack Brands Australia for approximately AUD600mn, creating a wider footprint in the Oceania region.

URC completed its acquisition of Balayan Sugar Mill for Php1.6bn, making URC the largest sugar producer in the Philippines.

CEB launched its first US destination - Guam, and became the first low cost carrier to operate the Manila-Guam route. It also opened its regional office in Seoul.

Together with seven other market champions in Asia Pacific, CEB announced the formation of the world’s first pan-regional low cost carrier alliance, the Value Alliance.

BOI approved and granted pioneer status to the three expansion projects of JG Petrochem, increasing the company's production capacity and product portfolio.

RLC

RLC installed solar power facilities in 10 of its malls to become the country’s biggest producer of solar power for self-consumption, taking the lead in ecological sustainability.

RLC further diversified its revenue stream through the creation of a new business unit devoted on Infrastructure and Integrated Development, including logistics and warehouse facilities.

2017

JG Summit raised its stake in MER by 2.44% to 29.6% for Php6.9bn.

JG Summit invested USD25mn in Singapore-based Sea Limited, an internet-based platform company focused on greater Southeast Asia, through a convertible promissory note.

JG Summit formed Oriente Express, a joint venture with Hong Kong-based Oriente to set-up a digital financial service to address the underbanked Filipino population.

URC and Hong Kong’s Vitasoy Group established a joint venture, adding soy milk to the company's beverage lines.

Cebu Pacific

CEB went all-out in its customer-first initiatives with the unveiling of its Customer Command Center, an integrated facility and technology for social intelligence and customer engagement.

CEB launched its Cadet Pilot training program “Study Now, Pay Later” scheme for 240 aspiring Filipino pilots who will train in Australia.

CEB named Cagayan de Oro’s Laguindingan Airport as its seventh hub.

RBank soft-launched the Robinsons Bank DOS Mastercard, the first and only credit card in the market that automatically splits all straight retail transactions into two installments at 0% interest.

Mr. Lance Y. Gokongwei officially assumed the role as JG Summit's President and CEO, with a vision of transforming JG Summit into a leading digital conglomerate in the Philippines.

In a simple commemorative event culminating in the ceremonial ringing of the bell to signal the opening of the stock market trading activities for the day, JG Summit marked its 25th year as a listed company in the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Through the NAIA Consortium, JG Summit and six other large Philippine conglomerates have been granted Original Proponent Status from the Department of Transportation and the Manila International Airport Authority for its unsolicited proposal to rehabilitate, upgrade, expand, operate, and maintain the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for a period of 15 years.

North Luzon Airport Consortium (now incorporated as Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corporation), comprising of Filinvest Development Corporation, JG Summit Holdings Inc., Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc. and Changi Airport Philippines (I) Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Changi Airports International, was awarded the 25-year operations and maintenance contract of the Clark International Airport.

Oriente Express publicly-launched Cashalo, its first ever digital finance service that aims to provide fast, easy, and affordable loans for Filipinos through a mobile app.

In line with its digital transformation strategy, JG Summit has partnered with tech titan Microsoft to rollout the Microsoft Office 365, envisioning a New Culture of Work in a Modern Digital Workplace to empower people across the organization.

URC formally announced the launch of its long-term sustainability commitments with the release of its first-ever Sustainability Report.

URC obtained full control of Calbee-URC and Hunt-URC after buying 50% from its joint venture partners, Calbee and ConAgra, respectively, in line with its agenda of driving an aligned and scalable Snacking category growth and simplifying their operations as part of the Philippine business portfolio.
