A Sustained Effort: URC Among Vietnam’s Top 100 Sustainable Businesses

URC Vietnam makes the prestigious list for the second year running

URC Vietnam was named among the Top 100 Sustainable Businesses of Vietnam in 2020, a glowing testament to the company’s continued efforts towards sustainable manufacturing and business operations.

The annual list is presented by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which narrows down an initial shortlist of 500 companies using the Corporate Sustainability Index indicators as the main criteria. Only the companies that meet or exceed the 127 CSI indicators in four areas, namely sustainability results, competent governance, environmental protection, and sustainable labor practices, are included in the Top 100 list. URC Vietnam has achieved this distinction two years in a row.

Together, Vietnam’s top sustainable corporations can be credited with helping the South East Asian country make significant progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2020, Vietnam climbed to 49th place in the UN SDG rankings, up from 54th the year before.

The ceremony recognizing the Top 100 sustainable companies in Vietnam was held during the Vietnam Corporate Sustainability Forum 2020, co-organized by the VCCI and the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development on December 10, 2020. In attendance were Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam of Vietnam.

Speaking about URC Vietnam’s most recent accolade, Laurent Levan, Senior Vice President and Regional Director for URC Indochina, said, “This prestigious award will be the driving force for URC Vietnam to continue to operate and spread sustainable values in Vietnam, based on three pillars: environmental protection and human development and quality products.”

Levan added that URC Vietnam “will continue pursuing its mission to move forward to a circular economy, optimize operations by pursuing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to reduce environmental impacts, improve the lives of employees, promote education, and implement social responsibility initiatives to develop the community.”

URC Vietnam has been among the top 100 sustainable businesses recognized by VCCI since 2019. In September 2020, it landed among Vietnam’s Top 10 Prestigious Companies in the non-alcoholic beverage sector. It was also listed among the 33 organizations recognized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs for supporting children in Binh Duong province from 2015 to 2020.

URC has been in Vietnam for close to 20 years, starting there as a trading company in 2003.  It now has five plants across Vietnam: three in Binh Duong, one in Quang Ngai, and one in Hanoi.
