Here’s How Robinsons Land Is Leading the Way Towards Gender Equality

RLC earns a spot on Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality Index

Robinsons Land Corporation, the real estate arm of JG Summit Holdings, Inc., was recently included on the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, one of only two Philippine companies included on the global list.

According to Peter T. Grauer, Chairman of Bloomberg, the list was created to offer investors “visibility into a previously opaque area of environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting from public companies.” Since its launch in 2016, the index has evolved in complexity and now includes more substantial metrics such as the percentage of female promotions and women’s employment status patterns after going on maternal leave.

 This year’s GEI saw the inclusion of 325 companies from 42 countries and regions, encompassing 11 industries, a substantial rise from the previous index, which had 230 companies.

The GEI shows that while males still account for a greater share of the employment pie, companies worldwide are closing the gap, reporting that 71% have a strategy for recruiting women, 44% of promotions in  2018 were earned by women, 39% of revenue-producing roles are held by women, and 33% of companies have programs for women looking to return to work after a career break.

RLC’s high marks in the index are reflective of its pursuit of being at par with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals, of which gender equality plays a major part. According to the UN, gender equality seeks to ensure “full participation in leadership and decision-making,” with the desired ratio of 1:1 for males and females working at the senior management level.

RLC already meets this inclusive standard, with the men and women executives in the company sharing an equal percentage of leadership positions. Overall, RLC reports that 7 out of 11 jobs in the company are filled by female employees. RLC performed well across the board on Bloomberg’s GEI benchmarks, which focused on five areas, namely: Female Leadership and Talent Pipeline; Equal pay and Gender Pay Parity; Inclusive Culture; Sexual Harassment Polices; and Pro-Women Brand.
