Robinsons Supermarket Recognized for Its Contributions to National Health

The supermarket chain is a staunch advocate of good nutrition & proper eating habits

Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc., the retail affiliate of JG Summit Holdings in the Gokongwei Group, shares the conglomerate's mission to provide customers with better choices. One way it exemplifies this is through its supermarket division, Robinsons Supermarket, which has helped introduce Filipino consumers to healthier products through its longstanding partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

For these initiatives, Robinsons Supermarket was recognized as a key partner in promoting health and wellness during the agency’s 75th anniversary gala on July 1, 2022, at the Manila Hotel.

An attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology, the Food and Nutrition Research Institute is mandated to undertake research that defines the nutritional status of Filipinos; develop and recommend policy options, strategies, programs, and projects for implementation by appropriate agencies; broaden knowledge and technologies in food and nutrition; and provide science and technology services to relevant stakeholders.

As the first major retailer to partner with the DOST-FNRI in the fight against malnutrition more than 15 years ago, Robinsons Supermarket has been at the forefront of advocating for good nutrition and healthy eating habits. The partnership has produced a series of successful projects and campaigns including the Green Tag Evaluation System, which allows shoppers to easily select healthy (e.g. low calorie, low fat, sugar free, low sodium, low cholesterol, high protein, high dietary fiber) products approved by the DOST-FNRI; the Eat the Rainbow campaign, which helps ensure that shoppers choose from different food groups for a balanced diet; and the annual Wellness Festival, which features a series of promotions, programs, and activities highlighting the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

Presenting the award were Dr. Milflor Gonzales, DOST-FNRI Chief Science Research Specialist and Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, DOST-FNRI Director. Robinsons Supermarket was represented by Angela Totanes, Marketing Manager.

A few days after the recognition ceremony, Robinsons Supermarket endorsed a donation of PHP 135,960 to the DOST-FNRI’s Employee Association on July 9, 2022, at Robinsons Place Antipolo during the supermarket’s annual Freshtival program.

The donated funds were raised through the supermarket chain’s Eat the Rainbow campaign, which is held every January. For every PHP 1,000 purchase of fruits and vegetables, a donation of PHP10 is made to FNRI in support of the agency’s Nutri T.E.K. (Teknolohiya, Edukasyon at Kabuhayan) Para Sa Lahat program. Now on its second year, Nutri T.E.K. aims to educate beneficiaries on food and nutrition through training and livelihood programs.

A second donation worth PHP 100,000 is set to be presented to FNRI’s Employee Association as the chosen beneficiary of Robinsons Supermarket’s Wellness Festival program.
