The digital transformation initiatives at JG Summit Holdings and Robinsons Bank were hailed at the recent 2020 IDC Digital Transformation Awards.

International Data Corporation, a global market research and advisory firm, has presented the awards annually since 2017. The awards recognize companies with successful digital transformation strategies achieved through digital and disruptive technologies.

Now on its fourth edition, this year’s competition paid particular attention to the “tech-enabled resilience” of global companies as they operate in the new normal. Close to 1,300 nominations were screened this year, a record high for the IDC Digital Transformation Awards to date, despite the continuing global pandemic. The winners were chosen by IDC analysts and a panel of independent judges composed of industry thought leaders, veterans, and members of academe.

For the Philippines-specific awards, there were nine categories: Digital Transformer, DX Leader, Information Visionary, Omni-Experience Innovator, Operating Model Master, Talent Accelerator, DX CEO, DX Gamechanger, and the Special Award for Resiliency.

In the DX Leader category, Carlos Santos, Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Information Officer of JG Summit Holdings, emerged as the 2020 winner. As the conglomerate's CIO, Santos leads the overall strategy, implementation, and operations of the Corporate IT group. According to IDC, Santos’ "digital vision of transformation" successfully began with the adoption and migration to a cloud platform and the implementation of cloud-based collaboration, productivity, and enterprise resource planning solutions across the conglomerate's business units.

In winning this category, Santos was recognized for how he executed various initiatives to support JG Summit’s overall digital transformation strategy. The DX Leader category is open to all leaders in the organization, excluding the CEO.

“This award is for JG Summit and most especially to Corporate IT and all the IT people that worked on all the key transformational projects. This is a great validation that the efforts we have started are on the right track. This give us the inspiration to drive more digital transformation across JG Summit,” said Santos.

In the Omni-Experience Innovator category, RBank Sign Up by Robinsons Bank Corporation took the top plum. According to IDC, this category honors a technology program or project that enables “discernible and measurable excellence in the organization’s ability to create a customer-centric model focused on attracting and growing customer loyalty and advocacy.”

Fulfilling these objectives, RBank Sign Up is an online application platform that greatly simplifies the opening of an RBank account through a secure all-digital process. RBank Sign Up lets clients open an account using just their mobile phone, an internet connection, and one valid ID. The application enables real-time ID detection, and a facial recognition feature allows instant completion of the application process.

According to Chief Digital Officer Ramon Abasolo, customer satisfaction is a chief motivation behind the bank’s digital innovation efforts. “Robinsons Bank takes customer-centricity seriously. Traditional banks develop processes just to re-engineer themselves internally but nowadays we are re-engineering primarily to improve our customer’s experience and to enable them more in a digitized environment,” said Abasolo.

Other winners at the IDC Digital Transformation Awards 2020 Philippines include the Asian Development Bank, Philam Life, and Union Bank of the Philippines. "The impressive nominations we received since the launch of DX Awards have proven that many organizations have stepped up their game to become digitally competitive. With billions of pesos worth of savings, reduced manhours, and streamlined operations, digital transformation has proven that it is not just about the use of innovative technologies, but it is also about resilience, efficiency and most importantly – the impact that makes them champions,” said Lilibeth Agudo, Market Analyst and DX Awards Lead for IDC Philippines.
