On November 9, Robinsons Galleria–Ortigas kicked off the holiday season with awe-inspiring decor, a grand concert, and the much-awaited lighting of its one-of-a-kind Christmas Tree.
Standing 32 feet tall, Robinsons Galleria-Ortigas’ gigantic Christmas tree breaks with the mall’s longstanding tradition of having a standard garland tree. Custom-made in Europe, the shimmering white tree is a perfect background for Instagram-worthy snaps with family and friends. Its LED Christmas lights and intricate ornaments were also customized to match the tree’s theme. At the base of the tree are six brightly lit reindeer and glittery Christmas balls, which add to the Christmas spirit.

To set the festive tone before the tree-lighting ceremony, Robinsons Galleria invited the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, a 68-piece ensemble of young musicians, to serenade the mall-goers and shoppers with its extensive repertoire of music by well-known composers from around the world.
The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, the performing arm of Ang Misyon Inc., (AMI), is inspired by Venezuela’s “El Sistema” which provides free music lessons to children from disadvantaged families. After having performed in various venues in Metro Manila and the provinces, the OFY broke into the international scene with performances in Malaysia and the United States. Their latest concerts include shows at the Qatar National Library and at the opulent Katara Opera House in late October.

Performing at Robinsons Galleria’s Activity Center under the baton of Venezuelan conductor Joshua Dos Santos, the orchestra played pieces including Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco Overture,” Oscar Fernandez’s “Batuque,” an excerpt from Manuel Pinella’s opera “El Gato Montes,” Herrero y Armenteros’ “Venezuela”, Arturo Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2,” Johann Strauss’ “Pizzicato Polka,” Yuzo Toyama’s “Rhapsody for Orchestra,” Eugenio Toussaint’s “Mambo,” as well as the well-beloved OPM love songs and Christmas songs including Rey Valera’s “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko” and Ryan Cayabyab’s “Kumukutikutitap” and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.”
With musicians as young as 9 years old, the Orchestra thoroughly charmed the audience with their awe-inspiring talent—just the perfect way to start the Christmas season. In the coming days and weeks ahead, here’s a rundown of what else is in store from Robinsons Malls, for the young and the young at heart.
JINGLE JANGLE CHRISTMAS
Catchy tunes and upbeat dance steps are the order of the day as Hi-5 celebrates the holidays in the Jingle Jangle Christmas show. Join the gang as they learn the true meaning of Christmas through their signature infectious music.

In December, award-winning vocalist Morissette shares the stage with the top-caliber Manila Philharmonic Orchestra as Robinsons Malls offers shoppers a most unique way to celebrate the season.

AN ENCHANTING CHRISTMAS
