This holiday season, Robinsons Land Corporation’s Summit Hotels and Resorts is sharing the value of reading with children through the group’s latest CSR project, the #MerryBookmas Christmas Book Drive.

Summit Hotels’ Christmas Book Drive kicked off on November 15, 2019, at all its properties around the Philippines, coinciding with the hotel group’s simultaneous, chain-wide tree-lighting events.

In this new CSR initiative of Summit Hotels and Resorts, #MerryBookmas Trees have been set up at each of the six Summit hotels where anyone can drop off their book donations and foster the love of reading and literacy among the less fortunate. Each hotel has a specified beneficiary: For Summit Ridge Tagaytay, it will be a local foundation nominated by the Tagaytay City Local Government; Summit Hotel Tacloban will donate to the SOS Children's Villages International in Tacloban City; Summit Galleria Cebu and Summit Circle Cebu have partnered with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary in Cebu City; and Summit Hotel Magnolia and Summit Hotel Greenhills will share their blessings with the Giving Hope Foundation.

The children of Barangay Manlurip in Tacloban enjoy the spirit of Christmas at Summit Hotels Tacloban.

Through #HappytoCareforOurCommunity—the umbrella Corporate Social Responsibility campaign of Robinsons Hotels and Resorts—Summit Hotels’ guests, employees, and partners can donate books, whether new or pre-loved, from November 15, 2019 to January 31, 2020. The #MerryBookmas Book Drive is one of the ways Robinsons Hotels and Resorts (RHR) and its stakeholders work together to do their share for the less fortunate. Through this, RHR shows its commitment toward giving back to the communities in which it operates and shares its service-oriented culture and spirit.

Books help shape a child’s creative mind. Books are also powerful tools to help fight poverty and inspire young minds to dream big and become achievers someday. This Christmas book drive was inspired by the late John Gokongwei Jr., a known bibliophile who helped build institutions for learning and gave scores of underprivileged youth a boost in life through scholarships.
