Spearheaded by DepEd Bureau of Curriculum Development-Curriculum Standards Development Division (BCD-CSDD), in cooperation with the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF), the 2019 NSTF unveiled a total of 51 research projects and innovations by 132 student-researchers from Grades 7 to 12 on Life Science, Physical Science, and Robotics and Intelligent Machines. These categories were further divided into individual and team projects.

“GBF believes that quality STEM is the driving force for sustainable national development. We work toward igniting interest and upholding excellence in STEM among the youth. Through DepEd’s 2019 NSTF, we are honored to support future leaders in the field, our young Filipino science researchers and innovators in K to 12," stated GBF Executive Director Grace Colet.

Highlighting the theme of sustainability during the fair’s kick-off activity on February 19, DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Lorna Dig Dino said in her keynote address, “Any creation, any learning and innovation output should be a solution–a response to a community concern. In innovation, anything that you do should always have a purpose. So, if you want to innovate a process, a system, or anything to create something new and original, it should always be for a reason.”

On February 20, all the science projects were put on public display and subjected to critical evaluation by the Board of Judges. The winners in each category will be announced on February 21. As the fair’s main sponsor, GBF will confer the "Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Young Scientist Award" on the Philippines' official delegates to to the 2019 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona, from May 12 to 17. GBF will also support the travel and lodging expenses, allowances, and visa fees of the Philippine delegation.
