URC Sugar and Renewables (URC SURE) is making its price-reduced sugar products available to consumers under Robinsons Supermarket’s house brand, Supersavers, to be sold at all of the supermarket chain’s 160 branches nationwide.

Rene Cabati, URC SURE Business Unit General Manager, said this initiative is the conglomerate’s contribution to help stabilize the price of sugar in the market by making the basic commodity more affordable to consumers.

Sugar industry stakeholders led by Sugar Regulatory Administration officials and executives from various sugar industry groups recently visited Robinsons Supermarket Galleria branch to inspect and see the reduced priced sugar products being sold at the supermarket.

Among those who visited are Philippine Sugar Millers Association, Inc. Executive Director Francisco Varua; PSMA Deputy Director for Legal Affairs Cocoy Barrera; Sugar Regulatory Administration Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica; and Rolex Beltran, SRA Deputy Administrator.

SRA Administrator Serafica lauded the efforts of URC and Robinsons Supermarket for leading supermarkets in bringing down prices of sugar amid the continued rising costs of other basic commodities.

“I hope the rest will follow and do something good for the general public,” said Serafica.

Robinsons Supermarket now sells a kilo of refined sugar at P50 which used to sell at P64, while a kilo of brown sugar is now down to P45/kilo from the  previous price of P55 pesos/kilo.
