Robinsons GenSan Wins DOE’s Prestigious Excellence in Energy Efficiency Award

The mall ranks high in energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy production

Robinsons Place General Santos  was among the big winners at the Department of Energy’s recently held Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards. Popularly known as Robinsons GenSan, the mall received the award for excellence in the Energy Management for Industries and Buildings category at the awards ceremony led by DOE Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla on December 22, 2022.

Pursuant to Republic Act 11285 or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the Department of Energy organizes the EEE Awards each year to promote the implementation of energy management systems and energy efficiency best practices in all designated establishments. The most recent EEE Awards received 327 entries from the private and government sectors, with only 24 making the final cut.

Aside from its advocacy to use land space efficiently by converting mall areas into health and recreation spaces for mall visitors and the community, Robinsons GenSan is one of Robinsons Land Corporation’s active participants in renewable energy production. The mall’s solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system generates 2,048 megawatts of power, compensating for 80 to 100% of its power demands. Energy efficiency is also ensured in the mall through the exclusive use of LED lighting.

RLC is currently the largest solar-powered mall operator with solar rooftop installations in 24 Robinsons Malls, generating a total capacity of over 30 megawatts of clean and renewable energy that reduces carbon emissions and dependence on fossil-fuel-based electricity.

On top of its energy efficiency efforts, Robinsons Malls recently opened electric vehicle charging stations in Robinsons Galleria Ortigas, Robinsons Magnolia, and Robinsons Tagaytay, promoting zero-emission transportation alternatives in line with its commitment of “Making Life Better” for all Filipinos.
