Cebu Pacific and De La Salle University – Manila (DLSU) have entered a five-year partnership that will see select students getting intensive mentorship from the carrier’s technical experts. The collaboration, formalized via a Memorandum of Agreement with Cebu Pacific, will be executed through DLSU’s Design Engineering Program. Twenty-five engineering students will be participating in the program’s pilot run beginning in 2025.
The program will allow budding engineers to work with Cebu Pacific’s team of experts in designing and developing projects for real airline operations as part of their thesis requirements. Opportunities include learning from the carrier’s many future-forward initiatives and innovations, such as smart maintenance systems and sustainable mobility solutions.

This exciting new partnership with DLSU underscores Cebu Pacific’s commitment to develop local talents for the continued and sustainable growth of the Philippine aviation industry. Alongside initiatives like the “Juan Flight Closer to Home” Program, which aims to bring overseas Filipino engineers back home to share their learnings and advance their careers domestically, Cebu Pacific is also invested in upskilling homegrown engineers and engineering students.
“This partnership invests in more than projects—it invests in people. By guiding young engineers to innovate with purpose, we are building the future of Philippine aviation together,” said Shevantha Weerasekera, CEB Vice President for Engineering and Fleet Management. Twenty-five DLSU engineering students have been chosen for the program’s pilot run this year. This marks CEB’s first formal partnership with a university to embed practical airline industry experience into higher education. The airline said it plans to expand the program to more schools in the coming years as part of its long-term investment in Philippine aviation.
