Doing Great at 28: Cebu Pacific Named Best Airline at Routes Asia 2024 Awards

Recognition sweetens the celebration of CEB’s 28th year of flight operations

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ leading carrier, soared to new heights as it commemorated its 28th year of flight operations this month. Since its inaugural flight on March 8, 1996, from Manila to Cebu, the hometown of its founder, the late John Gokongwei Jr., Cebu Pacific has served over 200 million passengers to date.

On its continuing journey, the airline has marked several significant milestones. In 2001, it launched its first international flight, flying from Manila to Hong Kong, and in 2013, it boldly ventured into long-haul routes with its inaugural flight to Dubai. Today, Cebu Pacific boasts a comprehensive network, connecting 35 domestic and 24 international destinations spanning Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

Adding to its growing list of accolades, Cebu Pacific was recently honored with the prestigious Best Airline award at the Routes Asia 2024 Awards on February 28, 2024. This was in recognition of the airline’s exceptional contributions to airport and destination marketing in the Asia Pacific region, underscoring its commitment to enhancing air travel accessibility and affordability through collaborative efforts with airports and destination partners. These collaborations have notably led to the successful resumption of its Clark hub and the launch of 15 domestic and international destinations in April 2023, among others, which positioned Cebu Pacific with the widest domestic network in the Philippines.

"We are honored to receive this award. This reflects Cebu Pacific’s unwavering commitment to providing our passengers with exceptional service, expanding our network connectivity, and making air travel more accessible and affordable,” said Alexander Lao, Cebu Pacific President and Chief Commercial Officer.

The award also highlighted Cebu Pacific’s initiatives to incorporate various sustainable practices into its operations through the optimization of flight plans and the adoption of electric vehicles in its ground operations. The airline aims to transition to an all-NEO (New Engine Option) fleet by 2028 and will incorporate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in its commercial network by 2030.

The Routes Asia Awards is the only route development event dedicated to the Asia Pacific region. This latest recognition reaffirms Cebu Pacific’s position as the leader in the Philippine aviation industry, connecting communities, and driving economic growth.

Apart from this award, Cebu Pacific was recently hailed as the Best Low-Cost Airline Brand and the Most Sustainable Low-Cost Airline in the Philippines for 2023 by World Economic Magazine, a US-based publication whose annual awards highlight and acknowledge industry disruptors across the global financial marketplace.

The airline was also named by Airlineratings.com, the world’s leading airline safety and product rating review website, as among the top 20 safest low-cost airlines in the world for 2024.

For its sustainability initiatives, CEB was given a prestigious Gold rating from CAPA - Centre for Aviation and secured an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) score of 41 from S&P Global.
