Collaboration is key to fast-tracking support to our medical frontliners as the nation races toward the goal of eradicating COVID-19.

In order to mobilize things quickly, the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF), the philanthropic arm of the Gokongwei Group, has partnered with its affiliate pharmaceutical retail firm The Generics Pharmacy (TGP), leveraging on its years of experience in health supply procurement and its delivery system to hospitals and various health institutions.

TGP plays a vital role in GBF’s fulfilment of committed in-kind donations to hospitals at the forefront of the fight against this pandemic. By working together, 128,479 units of personal protective equipment and medical supplies have been delivered to 10 Metro Manila hospitals on GBF’s priority list for its first wave of COVID-19 relief efforts.

These in-kind donations include 10,575 N95 masks, 3,800 face shields, 44,999 surgical masks, 67,500 pairs of surgical gloves, 1,020 1.1-gallon alcohol bottles, and 585 tubes of vitamin C.

Among the deliveries completed to date by TGP for GBF was the donation of PPEs and medical supplies worth P1.5 million, which was turned over to two COVID-19 referral centers: the Lung Center of the Philippines and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium.

Another delivery fulfilled early on was the P500,000 worth of PPEs and medical supplies for the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. Located in Muntinlupa, the country’s primary healthcare facility for infectious diseases is one of the many hospitals that needs all the support it can get, especially as it leads in the treatment of and ongoing research on the COVID-19 virus.

PPEs and medical supplies were also delivered to the Philippine Heart Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, San Lazaro Hospital, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, and East Avenue Medical Center.

GBF and TGP have committed to continue working hand-in-hand to provide support for hospitals during the pandemic. In early May, GBF and TGP seek to complete a second wave of PPE and medical supplies donations to 25 Metro Manila hospitals, including most of those on its initial priority list.

Aside from TGP, other Gokongwei Group companies that have pitched in GBF’s sourcing of much-needed medical supplies are Robinsons Appliances and Universal Robina Corporation.

GBF is unrelenting in its support for the nation’s healthcare workers and more donations, both in cash and in kind, are lined up for distribution in the coming days. “We cannot thank our brave frontliners enough, and the Gokongwei Group will continue to work together to deliver support to you through various ways in the fastest way we can,” GBF Executive Director Grace Colet said.

In March, the Gokongwei Group established a P100 million COVID-19 relief fund dedicated to helping our valiant Filipino frontliners, through the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation, the group’s non-profit arm.
