Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Marks 27th Anniversary, Launches Website

A go-to source of information on GBF, the site also promotes STEM and tech-voc education

Established in July 1992 by the Gokongwei brothers John, Johnson, Henry, and James, the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation’s advocacy through the decades has been to create a lasting impact on Filipino education.

“From the beginning, I knew that education would be the foundation’s primary advocacy. Why? Because it is my belief that education is the only way to save this country. We need quality education to compete in this world,” explained GBF Chairman John Gokongwei Jr. in 2017, as the foundation celebrated its silver anniversary. GBF’s efforts are focused on the fields of science and technology, as it is Mr. Gokongwei’s firm belief that becoming proficient in these sectors is the only way to help the country reach industrialized status.

To help amplify its advocacy, GBF is launching its own website, www.gokongweibrothersfoundation.org. Through the site, people can learn about GBF’s initiatives that will realize its thrust of “building the future through education.” These include GBF’s various scholarship programs done in partnership with its sister organizations under the JG Summit conglomerate.  Also featured in the website are the foundation’s synergies with the Department of Education and the University of the Philippines. More importantly, the website shares the inspiring stories of the people whom the foundation has helped over the years. These include previous scholars who are now building a better future for themselves as they pursue careers in science and technology-based fields.

According to Lance Y. Gokongwei, GBF Secretary and JG Summit Holdings President and CEO, the newly launched website is “part of the bigger strides the foundation is taking to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and technical-vocational education in the Philippines. The website will not only be a tool to communicate GBF’s efforts as it is also envisioned to be a hub where ideas and discussions on science and education will converge.”
