JG Summit’s Top Business Units Lauded at the 9th Pride in Performance Awards

In line with the company’s strategic vision, new categories were created this year

Now on its ninth year, the Pride in Performance (PIP) awards are presented to the business units of JG Summit Holdings, Inc., Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc., the Summit Media group and other affiliates that have made a significant impact during the past business year. Attuned to the changing economic landscape, the awards’ categories were revamped this year, reflective as well of JG Summit’s current strategic vision to help the company realize its goal of being the leading digital conglomerate in the Philippines, with an established and viable global presence.

The new categories are: Purpose and Sustainability, recognizing business units that best fulfill JG Summit’s mission of making life better for its stakeholders while ensuring sustainability and being planet-friendly; Digital Transformation, given to initiatives that “future-proof” the organization through technology, data, analytics, and innovative and agile ways of working; Customer-Centric Culture, presented to business units that promote a culture of being customer-centric toward both external and internal customers. Three other categories, People Focus, which recognizes companies that develop leaders that espouse the conglomerate’s core values and fully realize the potential of its employees;  and Business Outperformance and Rising Star categories, which recognize business unit success based on measurable criteria, such as market share and profit growth, were retained.

JG Summit's top brass, led by Chairman James Go and President & CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei, welcome to the stage officers from Robinsons Land Corporation Residential—Luxuria and Residences, which won the evening's ultimate Pride award for Business Outperformance.

As Lance Y. Gokongwei marked his first anniversary as JG Summit’s President and CEO, he spoke about the rationale behind the new categories in his speech delivered at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria. “Today, at the Pride and Performance Awards, we are here to celebrate the best of the best in terms of the four strategic enablers,” said Gokongwei. “When we talk about customer-centricity now, we are talking about our external customers and, of course, our internal customers, the most important of whom are our employees. When we talk about people focus, it’s about our employees being a key resource in our growth. Third, when we talk about purpose and sustainability, here we’re talking about our stakeholders in terms of the community (and in the countries where we are present), which essentially gives us the license to operate and very positively for many more years to come. What ties them all together is digital transformation, which is the latest in technology, but also very agile and flexible ways of working.”

This year, PIP received a record-breaking number of entries—102 entries, up from 62 last year. The responsibility of selecting the winners was handed to the steering committee, composed of Senior Vice President and General Counsel Atty. Macel Estavillo, Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs Group Atty. Ato Salud, Chief Information Officer Carlos Santos, Vice President for Corporate Internal Audit Boyet de Pano, and Senior Vice President for Corporate Resources Group Nicasio Lim. Providing valuable insight and advice to the group were JG Summit Holdings Chairman James Go and President and CEO Lance Gokongwei.
