Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' leading carrier, ended 2023 on a high note, solidifying its commitment to enhance operations and address the escalating demand for air travel. The airline received 19 aircraft and engine deliveries throughout the past year, further strengthening its position in the market.
The most recent additions to Cebu Pacific's growing fleet in 2023, comprised of two Airbus A330neo and various A321neo, A320neo, and A320ceo aircraft, arrived between November and December, bringing the airline’s commercial fleet size to an impressive 76 at the start of this year.
This landmark achievement was acknowledged by Alex Reyes, CEB Chief Strategy Officer, who stated, "Cebu Pacific achieved a historic milestone with a record number of aircraft deliveries this year. These additions to our fleet not only bolster our capacity to fly more passengers but also underscore our commitment to ensure every Juan gets to fly to their destinations."
In another strategic move to further augment its capacity, Cebu Pacific signed a damp lease agreement with Bulgaria Air for two Airbus A320ceo passenger jets on December 5, 2023. These aircraft now serve two vital domestic routes in line with the ongoing recovery of post-pandemic air travel.
Cebu Pacific received the two A320ceo planes in early January and commenced their flight operations shortly thereafter on January 14. The two 180-seat aircraft are scheduled to fly twice daily between Manila and Cebu and four times daily between Manila and Davao, respectively, from January to March 2024.
Under the damp lease, also referred to as an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) lease, Bulgaria Air provides not only the aircraft but also the necessary crew, maintenance services, and insurance, allowing Cebu Pacific to focus on flight operations and satisfying passenger demand.
“We welcome these two aircraft from Bulgaria Air into our fleet, which is just one of the various measures we are undertaking to strengthen our operational resiliency. These additions will ensure that Cebu Pacific will continue to provide convenient, reliable, and affordable air travel to every Juan,” said Xander Lao, CEB President and Chief Commercial Officer.
Cebu Pacific currently operates one of the youngest fleets globally, boasting a diversified mix of aircraft, including eight Airbus A330s, 34 Airbus A320s, 20 Airbus A321s, and 14 ATR-72 turboprop aircraft. This dynamic fleet composition allows the airline to provide the widest network coverage in the Philippines, ensuring efficient and affordable air travel for its passengers.
Playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of air travel in the region, Cebu Pacific is poised to continue its fleet modernization and expansion – aiming for a 91-aircraft fleet by the end of 2024 – supporting the airline's commitment toward environmental and social sustainability, and making air travel reliable and accessible for all.
Cebu Pacific flies to 35 domestic and 25 international destinations spread across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. For more information on CEB, visit cebupacificair.com
