Robinsons Iligan Opens the City’s First Muslim Prayer Room in Mall

The space promotes building a community of inclusivity, respect, and diversity.

Robinsons Iligan celebrated the inauguration of its new Muslim prayer room last August 15, 2025, marking the very first room of its kind to open in an Iligan mall. Located at the third level of the mall, the sacred space allows followers of Islam to fulfill their daily prayer obligations at a convenient and accessible location. With roughly 12% of Iligan City’s population being Muslim according to the 2020 Philippine National Census, the prayer room serves a significant and highly respected portion of the community, and emphasizes Robinsons Malls’ commitment to building inclusive spaces where every Filipino feels welcome.

Alongside many tenant-partners of Robinsons Iligan, the inauguration was attended by Hon. Frederick W. Siao, Mayor of Iligan City; Princess Almerah D. Lucman, Provincial Director of National Commission on Muslim Filipinos Satellite Office-Iligan; Sagar Pagiorongan, President of Bangon Marawi Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Atty. Naima Sanggacala, Chief of the Legal Affairs Division of NCMF Region XII-B Lanao; Alem Alibsar Abdullah Salih, Missionary from Saudi Arabia; and Imam Ismail Ibrahim. Representing Robinsons Malls were Danny Camat, Regional Operations Manager; and Jazzie Margaja, Senior Mall Operations Manager.

The Muslim prayer room at Robinsons Iligan provides a sacred and accessible space for prayer and reflection.

“We are here to show our full support for the opening of this prayer room. This is the first time here in Iligan that a major establishment, especially a mall, has opened and accommodated this important need. It is not only the City Government that is open to participation for inclusivity, but also Robinsons Malls. I am happy to see this happening in our city,” Mayor Siao shared during his address.

“At Robinsons Malls, we believe that malls are more than just spaces to shop, they are community spaces where everyone should feel welcome, valued and respected. The prayer room stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing spaces that honor and embrace our diverse community,” Camat expressed.

Muslim leaders from throughout Iligan also took the ceremony as an opportunity to request local ordinances to require major commercial establishments and schools within the city to likewise provide prayer rooms, following Robinsons Iligan’s example. The statement was made shortly after the inauguration rites concluded, and was met with positivity and encouragement.

Robinsons Malls previously opened its first-ever Muslim prayer room across all malls in Robinsons General Santos in 2023. With the company’s commitment to community-building, diversity, and solidarity, the inauguration of Robinsons Iligan’s prayer room will most certainly lead to many more in the future.
