Robinsons Retail Gains a Firm Foothold in Boracay

Robinsons Supermarket, Rose Pharmacy & Handyman open outlets in the island paradise

Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc., the retail arm of the Gokongwei Group, is making its presence felt in the country’s premier tourist destination with the recent store openings of Robinsons Supermarket, Rose Pharmacy, and Handyman in Boracay.

Robinsons Supermarket opened its doors on December 3, 2022, at the ground floor of the newly inaugurated The Shoppes at Station B mall operated by the Canyon Hotels & Resorts group. With this launch, it becomes the 148th store to operate under the Robinsons Supermarket banner as well as the 319th store under RRHI’s Supermarket Segment; more important, it is the first Robinsons Supermarket on the island. Its formal grand opening took place on December 5, the same day as those of Rose Pharmacy and Handyman.

To mark the supermarket chain’s long-awaited arrival on the island, Robinsons Supermarket partnered with Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA), a non-profit organization focused on solving hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate change, to hold a coastal clean-up and a community gift-giving activity for underprivileged families in the area.

The coastal clean-up activity took place on the morning of December 4, with volunteers gathering as early as 5:30 a.m. at the Punta Rosa beachfront in Station 1.  Among the 300 or so volunteers were residents from the barangays of Balabag, Yapak, and Manoc-Manoc, and representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government of Malay, the Philippine National Police, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the Malay Municipal Risk Reduction Management Office, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. Volunteers from Rose Pharmacy and Handyman, as well as from RRHI’s various trade partners, also took part in the event.  At the end of the clean-up, 96 sacks of coastal debris were collected from Stations 1, 2, and 3.

The following day, CORA representatives led by its founder, Antoinette Taus, supported the first Robinsons Supermarket “Harvest-All-You-Can” activity held in the Visayas. Since its launch, the popular farm-to-table selling activity has benefitted various organizations including UP IKOT drivers, the Philippine Heart Association, and the Right Start Foundation. In Boracay, six families from the barangays of Balabag, Yapak, and Manoc-Manoc were able to take part in the 60-second shopping challenge thanks to CORA and RRHI trade partner Errandz. In this activity, participating families were given one full minute to place as many fruits and vegetables as possible in their shopping baskets. Apart from the gathered produce, the families were given additional grocery gift packs to take home.

Thanks to Robinsons Supermarket, CORA, and Errandz, six families from three barangays in Boracay were able to participate in the “Harvest-All-You-Can” activity.

“Working with the local community, advocating for good nutrition, and caring for the local environment are important aspects of the way we do business,” said Stanley Co, RRHI Supermarket Segment Managing Director. “At every location we open at, we hope to create sustainable value that contributes to healthier, happier communities.”
