Organized annually since 2016 under the direction of the Vietnamese Government, the Top 100 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam initiative, also known as the CSI program, aims to promote awareness about the importance and benefits of sustainable development in businesses, communities, and society, and has made a strong impact on how corporations operate in Vietnam. Entering its fourth year of implementation, the CSI program in 2019 attracted the participation of more than 500 enterprises in various fields. This year, the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) continues to be used as criteria to assess the sustainable development of businesses with 98 indicators in three areas, measuring impacts on society, the economy, and the environment.

Sustainable development takes a great amount of long-term dedication and commitment, and requires strategic planning and cooperation from the government, organizations, and corporations. From a business perspective, sustainable development is now an essential component of a company’s global business strategy, especially when the unmitigated use of natural resources and low-cost labor are no longer expected to provide long-term competitive advantages for most businesses.

Universal Robina Corporation, one of the fastest growing snack-food and beverage companies in the ASEAN and Oceania region, has made sustainable business development one of its key principles in its operations. URC Vietnam has made great strides in this area, and has received prestigious industry accreditations for quality, safety, and sustainability. “Long-term sustainability is always part of our core business strategy. This CSI award is an honorable opportunity for URC Vietnam to confirm our commitment to sustainable development in all aspects,” said Laurent Levan, President and CEO of URC Vietnam, as the company received the Top 100 Sustainable Businesses 2019 distinction.
