Champions for Diversity: Cebu Pacific Promotes Inclusivity Through Key Partnerships

CEB joins hands with DSAPI and The Vanguard Academy to help individuals achieve their full potential

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' leading carrier, is taking significant steps to champion diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and across the air travel sector. In a bid to foster a more inclusive society, the airline has forged partnerships with two organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs and abilities.

The first collaboration involves a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI), aimed at enhancing awareness and support for individuals with Down Syndrome in air travel and tourism.

Through this partnership, Cebu Pacific endeavors to provide accessible and welcoming travel experiences for all passengers, including members of the DSAPI community. Initiatives such as travel familiarization activities, sensitivity training for employees, and public awareness campaigns are set to empower individuals with Down Syndrome and promote a culture of acceptance in the airline and tourism industries.

Candice Iyog, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at Cebu Pacific, stressed that “inclusivity very much aligns with our purpose. We're dedicated to flying every Juan through our affordable fares and extensive network."

Iyog expressed eagerness for the partnership with DSAPI to enhance programs that provide accessible and welcoming travel experiences for all passengers, while also acknowledging the potential benefits of the immersion programs for members of the DSAPI community.

DSAPI Chairman Elmer Lapeña hailed the partnership as a milestone in advancing the rights and welfare of individuals with Down Syndrome. Lapeña voiced his gratitude for partners like Cebu Pacific who share DSAPI's vision of building an inclusive society where individuals with Down Syndrome can actively participate and achieve their full potential.

In addition to its collaboration with DSAPI, Cebu Pacific entered into a three-year memorandum of agreement with The Vanguard Academy, a learning institution that welcomes students of all abilities.

Through this partnership, Cebu Pacific seeks to create a more inclusive workforce where individuals from varying backgrounds are given the chance to showcase their talents and make meaningful contributions in the workplace. "We believe that every Juan deserves equal opportunities to succeed," stated Felix Lopez, Chief Human Resources Officer at Cebu Pacific, emphasizing the airline's commitment to providing equal opportunities for success.

The Vanguard Academy welcomed the airline as a valued partner in fulfilling its mission. Ericson Perez, Head of School of The Vanguard Academy, expressed enthusiasm for the growing number of companies joining the movement towards inclusivity, noting the importance of preparing students for gainful employment in an inclusive environment.

The partnership's inaugural batch of interns recently began their placements, with one intern reflecting on the experience as truly memorable and affirming that they felt fully accepted for who they are within the company. Another intern shared this sentiment, emphasizing Cebu Pacific's open-minded and conducive environment where every Juan is welcome.

Over the years, Cebu Pacific has focused on employee initiatives that foster community building, celebrate diversity, and create inclusive spaces. These efforts provide employees with the support and empowerment they need to thrive and collaborate meaningfully, demonstrating the airline’s steadfast commitment to promoting a culture of acceptance and equality for its workforce, the airline industry, and other sectors of society.
