Going the Extra Mile for Hospitals & Local Communities

Gokongwei Group business units join hands to help communities & frontliners

In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, various companies of the Gokongwei Group have leveraged on each other’s strengths to provide support to medical institutions and help local communities.

While the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation, the philanthropic arm of JG Summit Holdings, garnered most of the public’s attention with its 100 million peso pledge toward COVID-19 relief efforts, other business units such as Robinsons Supermarket,  Marketplace, and Shopwise, companies under the Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI) umbrella, have quietly been doing their part.

RRHI's supermarket supply chain was able to procure and deliver 14,400 N95 masks to 22 hospitals in Metro Manila.

During the enhanced community quarantine period, the expertise of these companies in supply chain management, logistics, and procurement proved crucial in securing much-needed food and medical supplies, and later aiding in their distribution.

To address the need for personal protective equipment for medical frontliners, RRHI's supply chain was called upon as the company, in coordination with GBF, assisted in the importation of N95 masks and their delivery to local medical institutions. They successfully delivered 14,400 N95 masks to 22 hospitals in Metro Manila, a big help to frontliners in the medical community.

“We would like to show gratitude to our frontliners and acknowledge their sacrifices during these trying times. We hope that with these simple efforts, we will be able to touch lives and help combat COVID-19,” said Christine Pardiñas, Marketplace & Shopwise Supply Chain Director.

The conglomerate’s relief efforts also extended to other sectors during the ECQ. Robinsons Supermarket’s Mega Distribution Center supported local communities by lending trucks to Ateneo de Manila University to deliver relief goods to beneficiary communities in Novaliches and Caloocan. More recently, the trucks also picked up 10 tons of squash that were purchased from farmers in Sitio, Nueva Ecija.

“I’m glad that we can leverage on our brands’ supply chain capabilities through these initiatives, which are also our means of supporting communities and frontliners,” said Jody Gadia, Managing Director of Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. Supermarket Segment.

By effectively mobilizing their resources during times of crisis to serve those in need, Robinsons Supermarket, Shopwise and Marketplace continue to help fulfil the mission of the Gokongwei Group—to make life better for every Filipino.
