Robinsons Land Advances Renewable Shift with First Gen Geothermal Deal

Deal covers eight malls and a supermarket, boosting renewable energy use

Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) has partnered with First Gen Corporation (First Gen) for the supply of geothermal electricity to power eight shopping malls and one supermarket across the Visayas and Mindanao. The agreement covers assets of RLC, its subsidiary RL Commercial REIT (RCR), and fellow Gokongwei Group company Robinsons Supermarket Corporation (RSC).

Under the agreement, First Gen will supply over 22 megawatts (MW) of geothermal energy to the following properties: Robinsons Galleria Cebu, Robinsons Fuente Cebu, Robinsons Antique, Robinsons Roxas, Robinsons North Tacloban, and Robinsons Pagadian; RCR’s Robinsons Ormoc and Robinsons Tacloban; and RSC’s Shopwise in San Nicolas, Cebu City.

The electricity will be sourced from First Gen’s Unified Leyte geothermal facilities for Visayas-based locations, and from the Mt. Apo geothermal plant in North Cotabato for RLC’s Mindanao mall.

The agreement, signed on March 13, 2026, supports efforts to reduce emissions, manage energy costs, and ensure a more stable power supply across operations.

“Consistent with the Net Zero goal of the Gokongwei Group by 2050, we at Robinsons Land are committed to keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible and ensuring sustainability through strong environmental performance and energy efficiency,” said Mybelle V. Aragon-GoBio, President and CEO of RLC. “Through this partnership with First Gen, RLC will be able to power its shopping malls with renewable geothermal energy even as our power needs peak. This also helps reduce our exposure to electricity price volatility driven by global fuel markets, which is particularly important amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.”

Robinsons Land operates 57 shopping malls nationwide and maintains a diversified real estate portfolio that includes office buildings, residential developments, hotels, industrial and logistics facilities, and mixed-use developments.

Across its portfolio, around 10 to 15 percent of the company’s electricity needs are currently met by renewable energy sources, including rooftop solar installations with a combined capacity of approximately 30 MW. Within its mall properties, these solar rooftops supply more than 40 percent of electricity needs.

“We are pleased to rekindle our partnership with Robinsons Land and help them achieve their goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in their total power consumption. Geothermal energy is not just renewable, it’s also indigenous and the only clean energy source that can run baseload capacity. It offers not just electricity cost optimization, but also price predictability. We look forward to supporting RLC as they continue to grow their portfolio with sustainability at the core of their expansion,” said First Gen President Francis Giles Puno.

First Gen is one of the country’s leading producers of renewable energy, with 1,700 MW of capacity from hydro, geothermal, solar, and wind facilities nationwide, and is part of First Philippine Holdings Corporation.

The partnership strengthens Robinsons Land’s push to expand its use of renewable energy while ensuring reliable, cost-efficient power across its portfolio, positioning the company to meet evolving energy demands as it continues to expand.
