More than 1,800 students from Barangays Simlong, Pinamucan Ibaba, and Pinamucan Proper in Batangas City received school supplies from JG Summit Petrochemicals Group (JGSPG) on May 31 and June 3, 2019, as part of the Group’s annual participation in the Department of Education’s “Balik Eskwela” initiative. The activity formed part of the DepEd’s back-to-school programs, which brought together stakeholders to contribute their time, efforts, and resources in preparing public school facilities for the opening of the school year through Brigada Eskwela, and followed afterward by donations of school and office supplies and equipment for the students and teachers through Balik Eskwela.

The children from Simlong Elementary School are ready for the first day of classes.

The activity ensured that school-age children from JGSPG’s host communities, including those enrolled in Alternative Learning and Special Education, received necessary materials for the coming school year. Each student received school kits filled with essentials such as notebooks, rulers, erasers, pencils, and pens, while teachers of the beneficiary schools also received office supplies, including reams of paper and ink for their printers. JGSPG also distributed and installed 38 units of computers in Barangay Simlong Elementary School.

(“This is just one of the many ways JG Summit has helped us. We are very grateful and we hope that the company will never tire of supporting our youth.”)

The annual activity, which JGSPG has been participating in for two decades now as part of its own “Abot Kamay” flagship community and educational development program, aims to help the youth in its host communities succeed by providing them with useful educational resources. To effectively implement the activity, JGSPG tapped volunteers from its employees as well as from its partner contractors.

Education is one of the focus areas of JGSPG’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The company believes providing assistance in educating young minds is one way of expressing its concern as a good corporate citizen, especially in its host communities.
