As soon as Robinsons Land launched PlayLab, billed as the country’s first digital playground, in Robinsons Galleria Cebu earlier this year, children, parents, and the young-at-heart alike all clamored for the opening of a branch in Metro Manila. On October 31, 2018, they got their wish as PlayLab in Robinson Galleria formally opened to the public.

Found on the fourth level of the popular mall, now in the finishing stages of a massive renovation, PlayLab promises hours of fun, learning, and enjoyment for all who walk through its doors. Featuring the tagline “Experience the Future,” PlayLab does just that, as the surroundings are just like walking into a futuristic video game, with their bright neon colors and fancy art graphics all around.

There are 14 major installations at PlayLab, all designed to help children learn about real-world phenomena through the beauty of play. As the renowned education specialist O. Fred Donaldson once said, “Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” Perhaps more valuable is the level of interaction the children get with their peers; at PlayLab they learn to share, cooperate, and enjoy each other’s company.

With room for 40 players, the Fantasy Slope is among the largest installations. The slide of the future, the surface shifts from an undersea to an outer space environment as you make your way down. Another one of the big attractions, having space for 30 Players, the Rainbow Tree is the one that usually gets everyone’s attention. How can you resist hopping up on the swings or climbing the tree to get to the hammock on top?

The images on the sliding surface of Fantasy Slope changes as you slide down.

With Ball Strike, 15 players help each other out by throwing balls at enemies (they’re trying to steal all of Earth’s toys) projected onto a big screen. Defeat more alien invaders in Planet Defense. This time, players put their hand-and-eye coordination to the test by climbing a wall and swatting at flying objects attacking the Earth. Not all alien life forms are menacing—in Another Land, up to 8 players at a time may learn more about what else might be out there, sharing our galaxy.

After all that excitement, try some of other installations built for groups of 8. With Evolution of the Stars, watch as stars are born right under your feet and follow your steps as they grow. With The Giant, it is your turn to change size, as you shape-shift in front of an interactive screen. You don’t have to get wet to enjoy the Infinity Pool; here, kids get acquainted with their sense of touch, as they feel different sensations on their feet as they walk around the area.

Fantasy Water Flow lets you play with water without get soaked. In this interactive game, up to four players can alter the flow of water to make a plant grow.

For the artistically inclined, The Butterfly World, Digital Painter, Doodle Aquarium, and Live Dreams installations are a delight. With Butterfly World, get creative with your coloring skills to make a butterfly or flower as unique as possible. When you’re done, just tap on your artwork to make it take flight. There’s space for 10 players in Digital Painter, where coloring books get a massive upgrade with giant crayons and a wide digital canvas. There’s room for 24 players at Doodle Aquarium, where drawings magically appear inside a larger-than-life digital aquarium. A similar effect is created in Live Dreams, where you can color a dragon, fairy, UFO and other magical creatures and make them move in a giant dream world.

Tap Tap Wall is the final installation players will see. Here, they can create pixelated designs by tapping on a giant lightboard, leaving their mark before saying goodbye to PlayLab.

With safety being a priority, there are Park Keepers roving around the area at all times, supervising the children as they make their way around Playlab, or to provide first aid if necessary. A registered nurse is also stationed permanently on the premises.
